Katlynn and Derek’s Wedding Day
It’s hard to believe that Katylnn and Derek’s beautiful Geneva IL wedding took place over a month ago. I still remember the smiles, laughter, fun, and incredible people from the day. Looking through and editing the photos brought such a smile to my heart. I could literally hear Katlynn’s laughter as I looked at some of these images. I just adore these two and their families!
The day began with the ladies at Katylnn and Derek’s condo. Our little flower girl stole the show, and I couldn’t help but capture a few portraits of her. Katlynn and her beautiful mom, Deb, had me laughing and even holding back a tear or two. I just love their mother daughter portrait together, and would love to someday have one like it with my mother and myself on my wedding day.
We were running just a little bit behind, as oftentimes happens on wedding days, and let the guys know that we would meet them at a nearby forest preserve for Katlynn and Derek’s first look photos. Sharon and Samantha from Shannon Gail Weddings and Events made sure that every detail was taken care of, and that we made the most of our schedule. I just LOVED these two ladies, and cannot wait to work with them again!!! They really made my job as a photographer so much easier and delightful.
Katlynn shared a first look moment with her father as the bridal party and Derek’s parents watched. Meanwhile, Derek stood with his back to his bride to be, as he waited for their first look moment just yards away. It was a little bit windy that afternoon, but I loved how Katlynn’s veil looks in some of these photos because of it. We sped through as many different photos as we could before heading to the Roselle United Methodist Church. Katlynn’s uncle designed the church, making it incredibly meaningful and special to the couple and their families for the setting of their ceremony. The ceremony was filled with laughter, tears, and beautiful tradition. I loved that the happy couple chose to tie a knot for their unity portion of the ceremony!
With just a little bit of time before the reception began, Katlynn, Derek, my assistant Jana and I took as many portraits as we could just outside of Riverside Receptions in Geneva, IL. I don’t know what I would do without Jana’s help with lighting, as well as her energy and willingness to go above and beyond what I ask her to do. She captured so many beautiful detail shots of all of the special touches that Katlynn and Derek’s families hand made for the big day while I focused on capturing portraits of guests around the reception. Even when I only need her as an assistant and not as an additional shooter, she always brings her camera along and snaps a few images with her unique eye. Jana, you’re the best!!
The rest of the day flew by! Derek’s birthday was just two days after the wedding, so birthday hats and a birthday cupcake awaited the groom at the start of the reception. All of the guests sang happy birthday to him, and the smiles never ceased until it was time for me to say goodbye to everyone.
Katlynn, Derek, the Shelton and Klinetobe families: thank you SO much for asking me to be a part of such a beautiful and special day. It was just an honor and such a pleasure to be there with all of you! I hope you enjoy and treasure these photos and memories for years to come!
